Product insight: space and heat optimisation with planar E-Ferrites
Planar E-cores can be used in a wide variety of choke and transformer designs where a traditional ferrite core/bobbin would be used. The use of planar cores in a design can offer remarkable advantages often enabling a higher power density for a given volume.
E-FerritesKey advantages:
Large, flat surface area and high surface-to-volume ratio – allows easy cooling
Maximum heat point is in the middle of the leg – providing better heat dissipation
Windings embedded in the PCB – lower piece-to-piece variation
Easy to use – simply “clip” core-halves onto both sides of a PCB-trace-winding
Using planar E-cores and an appropriate winding design, will allow you to reduce the size of your existing design, or increase the power density.
