Quarterly eNewsletter from Custom services for magnetic components

Issue 4, January 2017
QFacts
One year on...
QFacts We, Acal BFi’s custom services for magnetic components, have just completed our first year of operation. During that time, we have established ourselves as your European partner for development and manufacture of customized inductive components within the Acal BFi; your one-stop-shop for electronic solutions. This year has been a great success for us and our customers that culminated in the launch of Acal BFi kOr, nanocrystalline and amorphous cores.

We are constantly discovering new capabilities in prototyping, involvement of outstanding design competence and materials from our core suppliers along with the integration of our manufacturing companies. This has enabled us to become a reliable European development partner for power conversion products and gives you access to the perfect solution for your project.
We look forward to working with you in 2017 and welcome any feedback or enquiries at qfacts@acalbfi.com.

In this issue we feature:
Strengthening our capabilities
Part two of our materials guide: Amorphous and Nanocrystalline cores
Benefits of using FEM in component design
Optimised design and supply chain management
QFacts Providing qualified and knowledgeable support to our customers for our products and services is part of Acal BFi’s culture. We always encourage our team to look for ways to improve our capabilities and service through improved processes, additional resources and additional technical training. Recently we have honed our expertise in supply chain management, production technology and failure analysis by hiring experts in these fields.
Understanding magnetic materials: How to select a core material (pt 2 of 4)
nano-amporph In this users guide, we focus on how to select the right material class for your application. We also give you in-depth analysis of the materials worth considering and what technical questions you should ask when starting your project, beginning with amorphous and nanocrystalline materials. Do you know why cores with the highest permeability are always delivered in protective cases?

Incorporating FEM into our product designs
FEM Finite Element Method (FEM) is a well-established tool for numerical field calculation, helping us to include effects like stray flux or fringing in the design process of inductive components. FEM can check and improve analytical calculations especially for designs where the cores either have complicated shapes or gaps.
In doing this, custom specific designs can be reviewed before prototyping and production. This avoids expensive and time-consuming iteration cycles and provides you with a quick optimum solution.
